Using Excel to Retrieve Data from Website
Many people are not aware that Excel has a tool for retrieving data from external web pages. I would like to share this information with others who want to copy data from the web using Excel.
Start Excel
For Excel 2003, go to Tools > Import External Data >New Web Query
For Excel 2007, go to Data > From Web
A dialog box will be displayed as shown in the following diagram.
Enter the web site url to the Address box. You will see the web page will some yellow arrows. Each arrow represent a table of data. In this example, I go to the Microsoft site and get the Office 2007 price list comparison table. When you click select a table, the yellow arrow will change to a green tick as shown above.
You can now click the "Import" button to retrieve the data of the table to Excel. The data that I retrieved is shown below.
